Sheltons Wedding Photography Tips

Have a Wedding Consultation

When looking for the right photography team for your wedding, schedule a consultation.  This should always be a free, no-obligation meeting.  A consultation will give you more streamlined information and allow you to interact with the studio staff and wedding photographers.  At Sheltons, you will see finished wedding portraits and albums instead of the lower resolution versions on the web.  Our consultations last about one hour and cover a lot of information and styles.

See Actual Wedding Albums

In studio, we present full wedding albums, not just samples from different weddings.  It is important to see the photographer’s consistency and style not just highlighted work.

Look for Variety

Everyone loves artistic shots.  Beautifully posing group shots is a completely different talent on its own.  Sheltons teams are composed of a studio photographer who is an expert at posing large groups and getting the beautiful formals, and a photojournalistic photographer who captures the detail and story of your wedding.

Hire a Wedding Photography Team

A photography team is essential in making sure your photography is efficient and as many details are captured as possible.  Two sets of artistic eyes are definitely better than one.  The team should work great together and should be very experienced adapting to the uniqueness of your wedding.  Three most common changes that photographers must quickly adapt to are lighting conditions, location changes, and special family needs during group shots.  When these changes occur, it is important to have a team that embraces these changes and quickly adapts to the unique opportunities they present so that your party is not delayed.

Share the Details

Let your photographers know about the details.  Your photographers will have some great ideas and will be very familiar with the traditional shots.  Be sure to tell your photographer of any special poses or shots you have been thinking of.  If you see a pose you like in a magazine, cut it out and give it to your photographer.  Sheltons uses a questionnaire form during your consultation.  This will be a good time to discuss your individual preferences.

Time or Location Changes

Sometimes it happens.  If details change for your wedding or reception, be sure to notify your wedding service providers.

Leave a Cell Phone Number

Leaving the cell phone number of a key person who can be available to vendors, wedding party, or guests in case someone gets lost or needs more information will be helpful.

Be ready One Hour before the Ceremony

To insure that as many details are photographed prior to the wedding, everyone in the wedding party should be ready to start photographs at least one hour prior to the ceremony.  Immediate families of the Bride and Groom should also be ready for the family portraits at this time.

Have all family and also your wedding party up at the front after the ceremony

With a photographer ready to pose those group shots and a photographer operating the camera, your formal group shots will go smoothly if everyone is available.  Have everyone meet about the fourth row so that they are available for portraits when called upon.

Relax

Your photographers are professionals.  They will be there on-time and start on-time.  They will capture everything you need.  So relax and leave recording your special day to Sheltons Photography.
